Based in the outdoor recreation hub of Squamish, BC, this role will be a great fit for someone who feels passionately about this vision, and who wants to be a part of a fast-paced culture where contributions are noticed.Position ScopeReporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller manages the day-to-day activities of the Accounting department, including audit/tax compliance, processes and systems, and engagement with teams across the organization.Trusted with, and responsible for, the creation of timely and accurate financial information and related reports for stakeholders.Provide leadership to a team of accountants, maintain frequent contact with the management team, oversee the operational accounting activities of the company, and collaborate closely with peers to stay connected with the pulse of the company.ResponsibilitiesLead the coordination and preparation of the annual and quarterly financial statements and notes thereto, acting as the main liaison on the execution of the audit.Develop and manage internal controls to ensure cost effective and accurate financial reporting.

Ensure that key financial processes are appropriate for the stage of the company.In conjunction with the Director of Finance, and external tax advisors, supports tax planning, lead the implementation of information tracking for tax preparation, and ensure compliance with all applicable tax authorities.Supervise the preparation of monthly financial statements and the accounting functions including cash flow, accounts payable, payroll, account coding and monthly account reconciliations.Lead the accounting department in support of business objectives, while enabling progressive career development for staff.Responsible for preparing the accounting reports and projections for various government funding programs, and the subsequent audit thereof.

Responsible for the in-house preparation of the T2 and SRED tax return.Ensure compliance with all provincial, state, federal, payroll, and other applicable taxes.Liaise with the company’s insurance and employee benefit providers.

Ensure best practices in key processes are continuously implemented throughout the company.QualificationsEducation: BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field.

CPA designation or equivalent.Experience: 5+ years in a senior leadership role, with experience managing an accounting team.

At least 10+ years experience in progressive accounting and finance roles.Proven experience as a controller or similar role in a high growth company.Proficient in the use of MS Office and ERP software (e.G.

Microsoft Dynamics).An analytical mind with a strategic ability.Proficiency in IFRS or US GAAP, along with Canadian tax experience (other country tax experience an asset).

Experience with government funding accounting, claims and audits (SRED, DOE, SIF, etc.).Excellent organizational and leadership skills.Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.Demonstrated self-learner.Ability to work well with cross-functional teams and thrive in a changing, growing environment.Proven management skills in developing an accounting team and effective mentoring and coaching skills.Carbon Engineering is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
