Engineering Manager

The Role:

As a software development manager within AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group (RTG), you will lead a team of high caliber software engineers driving the design, development, and test of critical software components for leading edge GPU, APU, OS products.. This position will involve collaborating with AMD software and hardware engineering teams as well as AMD partners and customers to develop innovative software features enabling delivery of AMD’s product roadmap.

The Person:

You are an experienced, hands-on leader with strong technical, organizational and people leader skills. You possess exceptional knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle, and you excel in leading skilled engineers within a fast-paced, matrixed, global work environment. You will drive software technology strategies, oversee product development and delivery, and actively manage team growth, development and agility. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering efforts are aligned.

Responsibilities:

• Manage an R&D software engineering team including staff hiring, mentoring, career development, engagement and retention
• Develop comprehensive R&D plans by overseeing the resource allocation, development, implementation, and execution of multiple projects concurrently, ensuring scope and schedule are achieved
• Identify opportunities for and drive continuous improvements of development practices and efficiencies, adoption of tech tools, and execution strategies
• Present technical summaries and updates to all levels of the organization

• Track Software Feature Enablement progress by comparing the actual progress against the plan
• Play a key role in understanding product architecture, requirements while ensuring scope control

Preferred Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years industry experience and at least 2 years of management experience in software development, leading large, global engineering teams in a fast-paced environment
• Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end product development process (Software Development Life Cycle)
• Demonstrated strong mentoring, coaching, performance management, and people development skills
• Experience with system software (driver/OS level) on Android/Linux/Windows environment
• Strong knowledge of productivity and project tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with waterfall and Agile development methodologies
• Ways to stand out:
  • Familiarity with 3D graphics and gaming knowledge is a strong asset
  • Familiarity with multiple development languages/models e.g. C/C++, GPU programming models like CUDA and/or HIP

Education:

• Bachelors degree in one of the following:
  • Computer Science/Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering
  • Mathematics
