Hays: Intermediate Electrical Designer


This is a Full-time position in Ottawa, ON posted April 23, 2021.

Your new company Hays is proud to be working with a prominent Engineering Consulting firm in Ottawa who’s currently looking to hire an Intermediate Electrical Designer to join their team.

This role will be based in their office with work on site twice a month.

Your new role Provide Professional Electrical Designer Services to the private & public sectors of the building industry, which includes but is not limited to power distribution, lighting, fire alarm security, data & communications and specialized electrical systems.

*Liaison with client & other consultants to determine project’s scope, under supervision of senior Engineer/Designer.

In a limited capacity, document and communicate project’s scope to in-house design team members.

Coordinate electrical requirements with senior mechanical Engineer/Designer.

Coordinate with client, architect, interior designer and other consultants.

Respect project schedule.

Ensure plans and specifications conform to applicable codes, good engineering practice and project scope.

Participate in maintaining firm’s quality standard.

Prepare drawings using office CAD system.

Manage/coordinate multiple projects.

Perform load calculations.

Prepare detailed design layout.

Review project documentation.

Participate in design review meetings.

Construction administration and site review.

Obtain stamp and signature from signing engineer.

Assist senior to monitor and control in-house costs and compare to project budget.

What you’ll need to succeed The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:Knowledge of building codes: National Building Code Ontario Building Code Model National Energy Code for Buildings ASHRAE 90.1 Ontario Fire Code National and Ontario Hydro Electrical Codes & BulletinsKnowledge of design practices & norms: National Fire Protection Association C.S.A.

Standards I.E.S.

Recommended Practices Knowledge of construction methods/techniques.

Knowledge of electrical systems.

Knowledge of design drafting and specification writing practices.

Knowledge of construction costs in both time and capital.

Thorough knowledge of CAD, word processor, spreadsheet and electrical design software.

Good communication skills both verbal and written.

Good leadership skills.
