Maintenance Mechanic II (Engineer 3rd Class)

This is a Contract position in Brandon, MB posted September 19, 2022.

QUALIFICATIONS
* Grade 12 education (MB Standards)
* Third Class Power Engineering Certificate, or Journeyman Ticket in Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) or Machinist Trades recognized by the Province of Manitoba
* Other combinations of suitable education and experience may be considered
* Minimum three (3) years equivalent full-time of experience in the operation and maintenance of a Second Class Plant
* Minimum three (3) years equivalent full-time of experience supervising other trades and contractors
* Minimum three (3) years equivalent full-time of general maintenance experience in a Health Care setting
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Good physical and mental health and manual dexterity
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
* Demonstrated communication skills
* Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures
* Ability to display independent judgment
* Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
* Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
* Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis

POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Mechanic II shall be accountable to the Manager/Supervisor, Capital & Infrastructure and is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the physical plant and infrastructure within Prairie Mountain Health. The incumbent will perform demand and preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment as required in order to provide a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for all patients, staff and visitors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

  1. Works in cooperation with all other staff to produce a harmonious working relationship throughout Prairie Mountain Health.
  2. Participates in various meetings and committees as required.
  3. Keeps Manager/Supervisor, Capital & Infrastructure apprised of all pertinent information regarding the functions within the department.
  4. Orders related materials and parts as required.
  5. Prepares estimates of time and materials for specific projects as required.
  6. Works independently or assists in the installation and repair of building services, building service equipment and various hospital equipment.
  7. Participates in new construction and commissioning as required.
  8. Performs all required aspects of preventive maintenance.
  9. Responds to emergency calls, such as fire alarms, as directed.
  10. Informs Manager/Supervisor, Capital & Infrastructure when repair materials are low or when various building and equipment repairs are required.
  11. Ensures that equipment, tools and materials are properly maintained and ensures economic use of the same.
  12. Uses a full array of various hand and power tools.
  13. Maintains work and equipment areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
  14. Performs other maintenance duties as required, not exceeding skills and capabilities.
  15. Notifies Manager/Supervisor, Capital & Infrastructure when additional help is required.
  16. Performs required duties on Prairie Mountain Health rental housing and sites.
  17. Ensures that consideration is given to patients and staff by notifying them when services are to be interrupted, when work is to be done and when work has been completed.
  18. Position may require heavy lifting, bending and working in elevated areas utilizing scaffolding and working in confined spaces and enclosures.
  19. Performs maintenance, installation and repair of various types of Prairie Mountain Health mechanical equipment and machinery including pumps, motors, various types of compressors, sterilizers, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, and grounds equipment.
  20. Performs maintenance and repair of patient related equipment such as beds, wheelchairs and blood pressure machines.
  21. Fabricates, repairs and maintains various items utilizing various types of welding and metal cutting.
  22. Relieves the Engineers in the Energy Centre as required.
  23. Ensure that Infection Control Policy is followed during maintenance activities.
  24. Oversees work performed by external contractors.
  25. Other duties as assigned.
