Dessert Holdings is a leading baked goods platform providing premium layer cakes, cheesecakes, brownies, bars, and other desserts to the retail in-store bakery (“ISB”) and foodservice channels on a largely private label basis. We are looking to hire a Payroll and Benefits Manager to join our team at our Delta, BC Facility

Reporting to the Corporate Controller with a heavy dotted line to Director of Human Resources, this position has overall responsibility for all payroll and benefits management for Canadian staff via in-house payroll processing.  The manager supervises two payroll coordinators and interfaces frequently with the HR departments at two manufacturing facilities.  The individual will play a key role in ensuring that we are meeting the needs of our employees and the organization while complying with all labor and tax regulations. 

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Overall responsibility for all payroll and benefits functions for two manufacturing facilities; a union workforce in Delta, BC, and non-union in London, ON along with administrative staff at both facilities.   
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial statutes regarding payroll.  
  • Partner with brokers and benefit providers in administration and oversight of benefit programs
  • Create an employee-focused internal customer service experience
  • Provide meaningful reporting and insights on payroll data to management
  • Focus on continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll department
  • Manage and coach for the development of the payroll coordinator position at each location.   

 

The skills, education, and experience required include:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with full-cycle payroll & benefits administration
  • CPM – Certified Payroll Manager Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, HR or related field required
  • Progressive experience with multi-site payroll responsibilities including managing direct reports.
  • Experience working within a Unionized payroll environment preferred.
  • Current knowledge of federal and BC and Ontario provincial regulations required
  • Experience with data analysis and auditing procedures, Excel knowledge required
  • Knowledge of basic economic and accounting principles and practices
  • Versed in project implementation and process improvement 
  • Works courteously and professionally with all vendors and co-workers
  • Experienced in ERP system, versed in Navision an asset
