Services Chapter Leader Position Type:Full TimeDepartment:Software Factory Location:Waterloo Office Job Summary: NAVBLUE, an Airbus Company, is currently seeking a Service Chapter Leader to join our growing team.

At NAVBLUE we formed our software development teams around a matrixed organization where team members belong to a chapter, in which their skills, competencies and standards are solidified and grown.They are also members of a Squad where they utilize those skills and competencies to support the squad to be a self-sustaining team able to build and release quality software.Squads belong to a Tribe, which coordinates and ensures the squad’s focus and output are aligned to support services and solutions for a product or vertical.

A Chapter Leader helps lead a Chapter on their competency, driving initiatives to reach chapter goals, and helping to set team standards.They continually evaluate skillsets in the team and use KPI’s to meet Tribe needs now and in the future.

Chapter Leads work with their team members, on the activities of the Chapter; helping to define the technical path to ensure success for NAVBLUE.

The Chapter is responsible keeping aware of the overall industry related to their chapter and their impact on NAVBLUE and for maintaining the technical stack for tooling need to support their Chapter, with the ultimate purpose to provide valuable squad members who can bring the skills and tech stack to each team.

They will maintain an inventory of current and future needed skills and technologies and prioritize efforts to effectively support the organization.

The Services chapter is focused on, but not limited to, the skills and tech stack for Software Development around:System PatternsMicroservicesObject Oriented Design and SOLID principlesAPI’sHigh availability and scalability designCloud, on prem, and hybrid systemsServerless technologyContainerizationA Chapter Leader provides people management support for a set of Chapter members on their team.This includes the responsibility for career development towards the needs of the chapter and helping them on their journey to mastery of their chapter discipline.This is done by the coordination of training with, peers, mentors, various other tools such as books, videos, conferences, or other training that is available.

Chapter Leaders also provide performance reviews, focusing not just on the technical skills of employees, but all aspects including interactions, company goals, processes, and soft skills (such as decision making, written or verbal communication, and presentations).

A Chapter Leader will also provide a portion of their time to a squad for regular duties as part of the Software Development team.

Responsibilities:Understands Service Technology stacksStrong knowledge of several stacks used in the organization.

Can use KPI’s to help create and execute a plan to strengthen the organizationCoaching high performing squad members to bring Service skills to each squadInvolved in the evaluation of technology needs of the current organization, identifying gaps in knowledgeProject manage teams to complete tasks.
