Chapter Lead, Frontend Position Type:Full TimeDepartment:Software Factory Location:Waterloo or Sweden Office Job Summary: NAVBLUE, an Airbus Company, is currently seeking a Frontend Chapter Leader to join our growing team.

At NAVBLUE we formed our software development teams around a matrixed organization where team members belong to a Chapter.

As a Chapter member, the individual’s skills and competencies are solidified and grown.

Team members also belong to a Squad where they utilize their skills and competencies to support the squad as a self-sustaining team able to build and release quality software.Squads belong to a Tribe, which coordinates and ensures the squad’s focus and output are aligned to support services and solutions for a product or vertical.

The Chapter is responsible for keeping aware of the overall industry related to their chapter and the impact on NAVBLUE.

It is further responsible for maintaining the technical stack for tooling need to support their Chapter, with the ultimate purpose to provide valuable squad members who can bring the skills and tech stack to each team.

They will maintain an inventory of current and future needed skills and technologies and prioritize efforts to effectively support the organization.

The Frontend Chapter, through the curation of appropriate technologies and an understanding of UX/UI fundamentals strives to guide NAVBLUE in providing industry leading user experience.

We do this through consistent, intuitive, performant and responsive UI design.

A Chapter Leader helps lead a Chapter on their competency, driving initiatives to reach chapter goals, and helping to set team standards.They continually evaluate skillsets in the team and use KPI’s to meet Tribe needs now and in the future.

Chapter Leads work with their team members to define the technical path ensuring success for NAVBLUE.

A Chapter Leader provides people management support for a set of Chapter members on their team.This includes the responsibility for career development towards the needs of the chapter and helping them on their journey to mastery of their chapter discipline.This is done by the coordination of training with, peers, mentors, various other tools such as books, videos, conferences, or other training that is available.

Chapter Leaders also provide performance reviews, focusing not just on the technical skills of employees, but all aspects including interactions, company goals, processes, and soft skills (such as decision making, written or verbal communication, and presentations).

A Chapter Leader will also provide a portion of their time to a squad for regular duties as part of the Software Development team.

Responsibilities:Understands Frontend Technology stacksStrong knowledge of several stacks used in the organization.

Ensures those tech stacks are appropriate and drives change if not.Can use KPI’s to help create and execute a plan to strengthen the organizationCoaching high performing squad members to bring Frontend skills to each squadInvolved in the evaluation of technology needs of the current organization, identifying gaps in knowledgeProvides people management for team, including career development and performance reviewsParticipate in squad work as possible, supporting development of productRequired Skills/Experience: Frontend development experience at a senior levelStrong web design/development experiencePrevious experience building and maintaining Design SystemsExperienced in UI design and interacting with UX teamsExceptional knowledge of javascript frameworks (Vue.Js preferred)Versed in the use of QT/QML considered an assetStrong ability to plan, organize, and lead initiativesStrong knowledge of DevOps culture and principlesKnowledge of SAFe AgileAbility to CoachUnderstands KPI and how they fit into organization goalsMust work effectively with others in a team environmentAbility to communicate complex technical ideas to a technical teamExemplary communication and organizational skillsAWS knowledge considered and assetStrong Ability to digest, apply and demonstrate new technologiesExperience in people managementQualifications:Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent Perks:Located in the heart of University of Waterloo’s David Johnston Research + Technology Park, NAVBLUE is close to shops, restaurants, gyms, daycare, and many other amenities, and only 10 minutes away from Hwy 85.
