Quality Assurance Technician

BURNCO is looking to hire an energetic and conscientious Quality Assurance Technician for a full-time position in our Ready-Mix division located in Edmonton, Alberta. Reporting to the Quality Assurance Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the sampling and testing of aggregate materials to ensure exceptional products are prepared for BURNCO’s customers. The successful candidate is an individual that can engage collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve deliverables while also being a self-starter with the discipline to work independently and within a team environment. In this QA Technician role, you will gain meaningful industry practice, job and safety training in the Aggregates business, and learn from friendly, experienced professionals.

What You Will Be Doing

  • On site testing of concrete
  • Communicating with clients, third party testing companies, and operations personnel
  • Troubleshooting and making recommendations to maintain high-quality ready-mix product
  • Observation and documentation of placement, logistical, and curing conditions that will impact product performance
  • Observation and documentation of third-party testing procedures
  • Preparation and testing of cylinders for compressive strength
  • Sampling and testing of ready-mix raw materials
  • Preparation and execution of batch trials
  • Other duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Supervisor


What We Would Like From You

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma is required
  • Candidates who have or are working towards a C.E.T designation will be given preference
  • CCIL/ACI certification for concrete testing is considered an asset
  • Construction industry experience with previous concrete testing is considered a strong asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Knowledge of CSA 23.2-19 field testing procedures


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment by following instructions with minimal supervision
  • Must be willing to work overtime and on varying shifts (including nights and weekends), as required
  • Able to work in conditions which may include varying weather, temperature, and heavy lifting (23 kgs / 50 lbs)
  • Highly motivated and disciplined with an ability to take ownership for personal learning

IMPORTANT: As a safety sensitive position, it is a condition of employment that selected candidate successfully pass pre-employment testing that will include a background check, a Drug (including Cannabis) and Alcohol screen, as well as a Fit To Work test. Please note that Drug & Alcohol testing is regardless of frequency of use or purpose. Candidate hired will also be subject to BURNCO’s Canadian COVID-19 vaccination policy in effect at the time.
