Tree Island Steel operates in Canada under Tree Island Industries Ltd and in the United States under Tree Island Wire (USA) Inc.Position SummaryHandle the disposition of all non-conforming material and serve as the key liaison person for the identification and isolation of this material.

Identify non-conformance trends and initiate actions to resolve them.

Manage import product program with respect to supplier approval and product incoming inspection.

Cross-trained to fill QA Technician and Chemical Technologist roles as needed.This position requires membership in the MoveUp Union, Local 378.ResponsibilitiesInspect and re-evaluate all product that has been quarantined as a non-conforming.

Accept or fail product based on quality standards and Sales input, and determine disposition of material that is non-conforming.Initiate paperwork for non-conforming reclassified product that is out of specification.Support Shipping to resolve out of specification test certificates.

Generate, correct, and sign test certificates where applicable, and ensure test results are representative of a run.Report non-conformances and non-conformance summaries to Operations and Scheduling personnel.Assist in determining the causes for non-conforming materials and take corrective action where applicable to prevent recurrences.

Inspect incoming finished goods/WIP purchased for resale/manufacturing.Work with various systems to maintain a proper and timely flow of product information related to non-conforming and reclassification activity.Work with material control team to ensure that inventory activity is coordinated.Metrology – assist with coordination and calibration of micrometers and other measuring equipment.Perform cross-functional duties in both Quality Assurance and Engineering and Technology departments to assist covering temporary vacancies such as vacation and other.Other duties of a minor nature related to the above which do not affect the value of the job.Professional Requirements And QualificationsA Technical Diploma in chemistry, metallurgy, or process manufacturing.A minimum of three (3) years of directly related work experience (skills to perform lab tests efficiently and accurately).A high degree of computer literacy in spreadsheets and database software.Ability to detect variations in manufacturing processes and suggest probable causes.Ability to provide and communicate systems requirements to the IS Department.Excellent time management skills and the ability to take the initiative as required to solve business issues.Ability to work with minimum supervision.Thank you for your interest in this opportunity.
