Steffany BennettDescription: A full-time technician position (level NR3, 35 h/week) is available on Feb 1 2021 reporting directly to Dr.

Steffany Bennett.

We are seeking a technician with knowledge and experience of cell culture principles and practices, induced pluripotent stem cell differentiation, and a willingness to work with animals (genetic mouse models of human disease).

The candidate will also be involved in daily operation and maintenance of the research laboratory including related administrative duties such as ordering supplies, tracking expenditures, obtaining quotes for equipment, and ensuring all safety requirements are observed.Typical tasks and duties:Maintenance of primary and secondary cell cultures and set up of cell culture experiments as necessaryEstablishment, propagation, and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells into neurons and gliaAiding in colony management of mouse colonies (with ACVS), dissection, genotyping, and behavioural assessmentEvaluating data and preparing technical reportsSelecting and using appropriate procedures, equipment and standards to produce required data and assisting in their interpretationProviding technical assistance to students and academic staffTraining and oversight of undergraduate and graduate students in necessary cell culture and mouse techniquesOrdering and receiving all supplies and track expenditures and obtain quotes for equipment
·Ensuring all safety procedures are followed and providing orientation of new staff and studentsEligibility: Knowledge, skills, education, and experience:

degree in a relevant discipline or B.Sc.

degree in relevant discipline with minimum 2 years of relevant technical and research experience
·Knowledge and documented experience in cell culture techniques and preferably in induced pluripotent stem cell establishment, propagation, and differentiation is required
·Experience in handling experimental animals, DNA extraction, PCR analyses is an asset
·Knowledge of laboratory maintenance procedures, sterilization techniques, and regulations concerning decontamination and disposal of biohazardous material (as applicable)
·Strong organizational and computer database management skills
·This position requires detailed record-keeping, time management, and maintenance of detailed written logs
·Knowledge of and experience in safe laboratory practices
