Grain Handling Operator

Operations Technician* Edinburgh, Indiana* Stable, full-time, permanent position* Competitive hourly rate $15-20/hr (commensurate with experience), 401K plan, health benefits, annual bonus* Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:30 pm with opportunity for over-time We’re Ian Martin Group ( , and we’ve partnered with our client, a grain and feed company founded over 70 years ago.  Our client has enjoyed steady growth over the years and has multiple facilities across Indiana.  They sell whole grains including corn, soybeans, and wheat to processors for eventual use primarily in food, beverage and animal feed.  They pride themselves on their well-established, long standing relationships with their clientele/farmers.  Relationships are built on respect and top-notch customer service.As the new Operations Technician, you’ll play a key role in conducting daily maintenance of the buildings and equipment at the facility.  You’ll manage the flow of grain dumped into the elevators and loaded out into trucks and rail cars.  You’ll monitor grain in storage and maintain conditions with aeration or turning to keep grain in good condition as well as overseeing the weighing and grading of grain before it is loaded into the grain elevator. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Performs all duties in a safe, environmentally compliant manner* Demonstrates ability to work in a safety conscious environment and follow all applicable safety and environmental regulations* Ensures that grain facilities are well maintained by adhering to a strict maintenance schedule.  Follow established policies and procedures, along with proper communication when operating grain handling equipment.  Repairs and rebuilds equipment to maintain its integrity and insure its longevity* Cleans and prepares storage facilities including but not limited to grain bins and ground piles* Responsible for loading trains when shipping grain to a customer facility.  This includes opening heavy lids in preparation of loading rail cars and making sure bottom doors are closed and secure* Visually monitors grain and grain products for irregularities and takes proper action when discovered. Demonstrates the ability to recognize quality control issues with grain* Assists in the unloading of grain from trucks.  Weighs/measures grain output on trucks* Possesses some mechanical aptitude, including the ability to recognize when equipment is not operating properly* Understands how to safely shut down and isolate equipment for maintenance using Lock Out – Tag Out procedures* Immediately reports all accidents and/or injuries to your immediate supervisor or a person at the next level of supervision* Knows and understands the operation of the skid loader, front end loader, yard tractor, lawnmower as well as equipment at specific locations as needed* Operates dryers when needed The best in this role will bring more than technical know how and a strong mechanical aptitude.  They will be able to problem solve, demonstrate dependability, and have high integrity.  They work well in a team as well as independently with the ability to multitask.  Above all else, they demonstrate a take charge and positive attitude while treating customers with respect. The DetailsThis is a full-time, permanent position that offers a competitive hourly rate in the range of $15-$20/hr commensurate with experience.  You will also receive an annual company bonus, 401K matching program, health insurance and the ability to pay into an insurance plan.  Typical hours are from 7:30am until 4:30pm, you will be required to work some over time hours in the peak season during the fall harvest and the occasional weekend shift to assist with rail deliveries/shipments.  Safety training and PPE will be provided. Qualifications* High school diploma or equivalent* 2+ years of experience as an equipment technician/operator* Previous experience working in a similar environment, such as warehousing, manufacturing or experience in a grain facility (preferred)* Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs as needed* Must be willing to participate in safety training* Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time* Ability to work both indoor and outdoors in varying weather conditions all year long* Ability to deal with moderate noise and grain dust* Ability to climb and operate at higher heights up to 150ft, and below ground level* Previous experience using a variety of loading equipment is preferred, or willingness to learn Your ApplicationWe value diversity and inclusion and encourage all qualified people to apply.
