The Indigenous Business Relations Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring Bird’s Indigenous Engagement Policy is effectively implemented to optimize Indigenous and operational objectives.

The primary responsibility of the role is to develop and implement Indigenous Engagement plans that support the Bird Business Development group, Bird Operations, and Indigenous communities, mostly in Ontario.

The successful candidate will coordinate and implement the delivery of Indigenous-focused Programs.

We invest in skills development initiatives and scholarships that support the aspirations of Indigenous Peoples pursuing careers in the construction industry.

Our national Indigenous Engagement Policy aims to ensure a consistent and culturally appropriate approach that respects the diversity of the Indigenous landscape in Canada, while supporting the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action 92.

This position is based in: Toronto Responsibilities Implementation of the Bird Indigenous Engagement Policy through project specific engagement plans in support of strategic and business plans.

Develop programs related to Indigenous training and employment.

Identify and engage with Indigenous businesses to optimize participation in projects.

Contribute to marketing material and presentations to specific clients and opportunities.

Support the Bird Indigenous Engagement team and Indigenous communities in applying for grants that advance employment, training, and business capacity development initiatives in the communities that we work.

Foster relationships and partnerships with Indigenous communities and businesses.

Participate in applicable conferences on behalf of Bird and report trends and information.

Participate with Bird’s Indigenous engagement team to further the implementation of Bird’s Indigenous Engagement Policy.

Present at and facilitate community information sessions related to Bird’s involvement in communities related to upcoming or current projects.

Report on Indigenous participation targets and requirements.

Provide advice to the Operations team and Management team on protocol and cultural related matters.

What We Are Looking For Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

A demonstrated history of and commitment to integrity.

Prior involvement in Indigenous communities is essential.

A degree or diploma from a post secondary institution is considered an asset.

Industry experience in the construction sector is considered an asset.

A good understanding of Indigenous culture, history, customs, and beliefs is essential.

A high level of organization, planning and attention to detail is essential.

A positive, stakeholder orientated attitude is essential.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is essential.

Ability to travel to Indigenous communities on a frequent basis is essential.

A valid Drivers License is essential.

Existing contacts with Indigenous Communities, Provincial and Federal Ministries responsible for Indigenous affairs considered an asset.

Strong writing abilities and presentation skills are essential.

Priority will be given to qualified Indigenous candidates.
