Project Controls Lead


This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted August 6, 2022.

Overview / Responsibilities Wood is currently looking for a Project Controls Lead to join Conventional Energy Canada team in Calgary, Alberta Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities: Act as the focal point with the project team and client, to ensure alignment with the project reporting requirements for timely and accurate cost and progress reporting Reporting of project costs, progress and schedule data using earned value management method; production and overall maintenance of project S-curves and histograms Monitor project progress status, achievement and non-achievement of major milestones and analyze performance in relation to the plan Identification, monitoring and reporting project status against the baseline plan to provide early warning to project management of any current and potential schedule slippages, and recommending recovery actions Effectively manage the communications interfaces essential for the delivery of cost, planning, scheduling and risk deliverables and services Report overall weekly and/or monthly project status and KPI to management Implement project Work Breakdown Structure for specific scopes, and lead the project planning process Implement the cost and planning control structures in alignment with the project Work Breakdown Structure Lead the project work approval process in terms of accurate cost code allocation and initial budget set-up and approvals Timely control and forecasting of budgets and ensure that the impact of all change requests is properly assessed and included in the budget and schedules if applicable Ensure Project Accountants and Billing Specialists receive support required from Project Controls team Support with quantifying subcontractor scopes of work for request for quotations Creation of the projects fully resourced, logic linked Gantt Charts within preferred planning software to the agreed project and program requirements Monitor current and forecast future resource needs for the project and program through analysis of workload at project level Responsible for overall development and issuance of project change orders / variations in accordance with contract / assignment change notifications Advocate and promote the project change management system ensuring process is adhered to the company standards and procedures Facilitate the preparation of proposal schedules and CTR packs Lead cost and schedule risk analysis workshops / sessions both internally and with clients Ensure risk is managed and monitored at project level in line with the company standards and processes Ensure Project Controls processes and procedures are accurate, up to date and followed on the projects Liaise with clients and ensure that projects are managed effectively to ensure delivery in a manner which meets quality, time, and budget specifications Ensure accuracy and completeness of all cost, planning and risk deliverables prior to issue to internal or external customer Ensure all Project Controls specific tools and systems are set up and functioning adequately Support staff performance and competency reviews Skills / Qualifications Qualifications and Personal Attributes: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (or equivalent gained through relevant vocational training and/or industry experience) Minimum ten (10) years of progressive Project Controls experience in Oil, Gas and Chemical industry Advanced working Knowledge of project planning software such as Primavera and NetPoint Knowledge and appreciation of the core principles of Contracts Management, Commercial Management and Project Management Knowledge and application of earned value and other progress monitoring techniques Knowledge of risk management processes and techniques Ability to build exemplary working relationship with project teams and clients with professional service focus Strong numerical and analytical skills Effective organization and planning skills Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment Uses initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving Commitment to continuous improvement Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) Company Overview Wood is a global leader in engineering and consultancy across energy and the built environment, helping to unlock solutions to some of the world’s most critical challenges.
