The Foundation has more than 375 collaborative projects including the new Eclipse Adoptium projects and working group.

Adoptium is the new home of the AdoptOpenJDK community.

AdoptOpenJDK has proven to be a runaway success, with over 2500 community members and over 230M downloads of their OpenJDK binaries.

The Adoptium working group’s top priority is to establish Adoptium as the industry’s trusted source for high-quality enterprise-ready Java runtimes.

It strives to advance, promote, and support the dissemination of technologies derived from or related to the Eclipse Adoptium projects.Founding members of the Adoptium WG include Red Hat, IBM, Microsoft, Karakun, New Relic, and Alibaba among others.The RoleThe Open Source Community Manager will work with the Adoptium working group’s Steering Committee to define and execute the global strategy for Adoptium at the Eclipse Foundation.

The ideal candidate must have prior hands-on experience engaging with open source communities, enterprise software development processes, and ideally Java runtimes, as well as a passion and vision for establishing the Eclipse Foundation as the leading community for high-quality Java runtimes.

The Community Manager reports to and works with the VP of Community Development at the Eclipse Foundation.Location of PositionThe successful candidate can be located in Canada, Europe, or the US.

Many of the Eclipse Foundation’s staff are based in Ottawa, Canada, and a candidate located in Ottawa would be preferred, but not required.

The Eclipse Foundation is global in scope, it is headquartered in Belgium.ResponsibilitiesEngage directly with both developers and technical line of business leaders in the Adoptium community in driving understanding of the Adoptium value proposition and adoption of their Java runtimes.Work with the community to assure the smooth transition of AdoptOpenJDK to Adoptium projects and establishing the working group at the Eclipse Foundation.Actively source potential projects and recruit companies including enterprises to join the Adoptium community at Eclipse.Define, implement, and promote programs that encourage open collaboration within the Adoptium ecosystem and the industry at large, and that raise awareness about Adoptium’s high-quality Java runtimes.Seek out opportunities for close collaboration with other Eclipse projects and working groups to further mutual objectives.Work with the community to coordinate associated release deliverables including website, documentation, marketing materials, testimonials etc.Build close working relationships with companies and individuals within the Adoptium community.Virtually and when conditions permit, this individual will be expected to travel to different Java related conferences and events in North America and Europe to represent the working group and the Foundation.Prepare content to promote and educate developers on the merits of using Adoptium runtime technologies.

The content will include videos, articles, tutorials, webinars, plus other content deemed appropriate.QualificationsRequiredIndustry experience working with Java or other runtime or platform technologiesStrong written and verbal communication skills and experience writing high quality materialsExperience with open source software community management, development and collaboration modelsDemonstrated ability to complete complex projects in a timely manner with minimal supervisionExperience of working in, or with, large enterprise companies at the forefront of modern technologyProven ability to influence without direct control or authorityDemonstrated success in engaging with and influencing developers and/or line of business and technical leaders is a plusPublic speaking experience both in person and virtuallyFluent in English with proven proficiency of working in an English business environmentWhen conditions permit, willingness to travel (up to 25%) – Europe and NA mainlyPreferredExperience with participating in and nurturing open source projects (either as a committer, contributor, or community manager) is a plusKnowledge of Oracle’s OpenJDK project and the Java Community Process (JCP)Technical understanding of Java runtimes including Java virtual machines, libraries, and associated toolingExisting personal network covering a diverse set of communities and social media platforms including Twitter, LinkedIn and FacebookBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalentLocationThe successful candidate can be located in Europe or North America.
