Engineering Manager

Weever is a growing software company based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

We build cloud-based software products that large enterprises use to capture data, manage workflows, and access actionable reports.

We replace clipboards and filing cabinets with tablets and databases and provide alerts, analysis, and other features that make data useful.

Our customers include: Mars (yep, like the candy bars) Unilever … and many more We tackle big problems with a small, focused team and powerful technology.

// Job Description We make compliance automation software used by manufacturers in regulated industries across North America to optimize data capture and workflow efficiency on the production floor, while enhancing real-time operational visibility for managers.

We use technologies including Vue, Rust, Ruby on Rails, and more.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team.

This is a full-time position.

The main duties of our Engineering Manager are to move things forward by leading the engineering team from planning to delivery of projects on time and budget, set and enforce standards by ensuring clear documentation on test coverage, code style, and peer review is understood and embraced by the engineering team and to support skill growth of our developers by keeping a pulse on the capabilities and culture of the team through regular and routine one-on-one sessions, skill shares, and fostering a blameless culture where accountability is clear.

// Core Responsibilities Act as a mentor and coach for a team of developers to help them reach their full potential by removing impediments and supporting their technical and career growth.

Manage the administrative and human resources functions of the team including recruitment, performance management.

Establish team-level engineering excellence goals and monitor the team’s development against continuous improvement targets, Foster team adoption of software engineering best practices.

Tech Leadership Help guide new product ideas by providing feasibility and creative technical solutions and executing software delivery with a focus on quality and performance.

Manage the engineering, deployment, and integration of software solutions while maintaining high software quality standards and engineering best practices.

Stay embedded with the development team to clarify business requirements, remove roadblocks, and analyze feasibility.

Lead implementation of projects, including architecture, testing, team coordination, code reviews, QA and maintenance.

Collaborate on engineering roadmaps and technology vision.

Process Leadership Contribute to portfolio prioritization to ensure that development teams are tackling the most important work first.

Be an advocate for process improvements and promote best practices around front and back-end technologies, scrum/agile process, testing, and code review practices.

Lead oversight and discussions around design, coding, testing, debugging, configuration and documenting of code.

The technical screen will be done remotely at your leisure.

We don’t want to take up much of your time The take-home exercise is designed to be a small, short project, or you may submit an open source project of your making.

We use the results of the technical screen as a barometer for the technical interview.

We don’t do any whiteboarding or other hazing rituals in the interviews.

We’re typically pretty quick to follow up, potentially with an offer, within a day or two of the final interview, though this may vary at times.
