Laboratory Supervisor

This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted January 31, 2021.

QUALIFICATIONS: BS/MS in plant science with a focus on Plant Tissue Culture 3 years’ experience working full time in a laboratory setting either in an academia or industry.

2 years’ hands-on experience in preparing high-quality specialized media.

Extensive experience in verification, calibration, and use of common and specialized lab equipment including, but not limited to magnetic mixer, hot plate, micropipettes, autoclave, balances, laminar flow, pH and conductivity meters Experience with statistical analyses, scientific writing and maintaining records.

Capable of working independently and in teams; comfortable with risk and uncertainty.

Detail-oriented, problem solver, promotes a team environment Experience in leadership/management is preferred Ability to quickly adapt to a flexible and changing schedule Strong written and oral communication skills and a proactive approach in all duties Highly motivated, self-starter; demanding of excellence.

Good time management and organizational skills Social and networking skills are desirable.

Responsibilities: Preparing high-quality specialized media and performing specific tasks associated with media prep Verification, calibration, and use of common and specialized lab equipment including, but not limited to magnetic mixer, hot plate, micropipettes, autoclave, balances, laminar flow, pH and conductivity meters Daily pickup of utilized glassware from labs, wash, sterilize, and redistribute to satellite storage areas Maintaining records/keeping track of records and documents Stockroom management, dispensing of product, and following directions/coordination of affiliated stockroom activities.

Promoting a safe work environment through various safety initiatives within functional areas Participating in individual or group projects that can include: learning groups, writing job training methods, and leading team meetings Reporting internal/external metrics to Manager Maintaining safety awareness, by authoring and updating work instructions and assisting with Job Hazard Assessments Providing technical expertise and training to staff Following well-defined procedures as outlined by SOP’s & work instructions.

Taking direction from Manager regarding daily duties.

Independently making decisions and utilizing available resources to meet production requirements.

Communicating any issues or potential problems Working effectively with a diverse cross-functional team
