North American HSE Manager

BURNCO Rock Products Ltd

This is a Contract position in Chestermere, AB posted August 3, 2022.

Excellence. Integrity. Passion.

Are you a dedicated safety professional who is passionate about making the world a safer place? Is safety in your DNA at work and at home? Are you a senior HSE Leader looking for a new opportunity with a leading North American company?

BURNCO Rock Products is looking for a North American HSE Manager to lead our dedicated HSE team and provide the vision and inspiration to grow and expand our leading-edge safety-first culture to every corner of our organization. This role is based out of our Corporate Head Office* in Calgary, Alberta.

To us safety is not about meeting our legal obligations. It is not just about getting everyone home safe each day. It is about our broader obligations to our team members and the communities we work and live in. Everyone has someone who relies on them – to provide for them, to have fun with, to depend on. When someone gets hurt at work it impacts the injured person, their co-workers, and the company but also so many more people not often thought about. It impacts everyone depending on that person at home, in their personal lives, and their communities. We fundamentally believe we have a personal obligation to all those individuals to ensure that every BURNCO team member lives their safest lives every day.

We believe that safety is not just done through policies and procedures. It is also more than eliminating or controlling hazards. Those things are fundamental, however long lasting and transformational safety cultures go to the next level. They are about true and deep behaviour change and influence. It is through how we communicate, train, behave, influence, feel, and show up in our work and personal lives that we influence and build the strongest safety cultures.

Safety is a mindset; a way of looking at the world; a way people think and act, and we are looking for an innovative and inspiring leader to continue to keep our people safe for those who rely on them.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As our new North American HSE Manager, you will be responsible for

  • Leading the BURNCO safety strategy to be the world-class industry leader
  • Launching a new consistent North American safety culture where safety is more than just a policy but an essential way of being for all employees

  • Communicating safety concepts, initiatives, and results to senior level management and occasionally the Board of Directors
  • Drafting and reviewing safety communications and materials including policies, procedures, incident reports, bulletins, and campaigns to have a OneBURNCO consistent program
  • Providing leadership on corrective action implementation
  • Developing, launching, and monitoring safety related training programs, ensuring the training is in accordance with business needs, with the right balance of global consistency and local requirements, and is effective versus just ticking the box
  • Establishing initiatives and targets to track and measure the successes of our safety programs, as well as highlighting gaps or areas where improvement is needed
  • Advising on best practice approaches, processes, and procedures to solve complex problems and drive synergy and efficiency across the business
  • Setting the tone and direction for all our team members in other official and unofficial safety related roles on what safety is at BURNCO
